The Pace We Keep
As the excitement of September gives way to the busy pace of October, finding moments to pause becomes more important than ever. Between the demands of teaching, personal goals, and family life, I’m reminded that finding our rhythm isn’t about slowing everything down, but making time for the people and moments that matter most.
The Stories Waiting in the Gear Room
I have watched students walk into that room worried that everyone else is more prepared than they are. We find a pair of boots and try them on. We pull a backpack from the wall, adjust the shoulder straps, and show them how it should sit. Sometimes the first size doesn't fit, so we try another. There is no grand moment when every worry suddenly disappears. Instead, the change happens gradually, one uncertainty at a time.
I can often see the shift before they say anything. The backpack may fit better, but the student begins to carry themselves differently too.
Permission to Recharge

The Pancake Theory
Cooking the perfect pancake might be the final exam of outdoor education.

Basecamp Season
Basecamp is where the real work happens. Gear gets checked. Routes are reassessed. Teams are looked after. Nothing flashy. Nothing fast. But everything essential.
